After working his last shift on Thursday, September 12th, Career Firefighter on the C Platoon, Linwood "Woody" Ohlinger, has entered retirement with 25 years of service. Woody began his career in 1988 with the former Wyomissing Fire Company as a paid driver until 1997 when the Borough of Wyomissing merged the Wyomissing Fire Company and the Berkshire Heights Fire Company together into what is known today as the Wyomissing Fire Department. Firefighter Ohlinger continued working a Monday thru Friday weekday schedule together with the paid driver from the former Berkshire Heights station in one central station located at 1259 Penn Avenue. In 2007, the Borough hired 4 additional Career Firefighters to staff the station 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Woody was then assigned to the C Platoon working a 24 on, 48 off schedule. The members of the WFD would like to congratulate Woody and wish him a very long, happy, and healthy retirement!
